Week 10 : — Letter J

Objectives

  • Recognize J (upper/lower), produce /j/ initial sound.
  • Read/write simple J words (jar, jam, jug).
  • Improve pencil control (tracing lines) and fine motor via colouring/dot‑to‑dot.
  • Activities (30–40 min)
  1. Warm up (3 min): J sound chant + gesture.
  2. Letter demo (5 min): show big J (trace in air) + child practice large motions.
  3. Multi‑sensory formation (7 min): form J with playdough or finger in sand.
  4. Workbook tracing (7 min): trace J lines + write J on dashed lines.
  5. Phonics game (6 min): “Colour everything that starts with J” (page).
  6. Fine motor (5 min): jellyfish dot‑to‑dot or colour.
  7. Read‑aloud & response (5 min): read a short J story; child says favourite J word and writes/traces it.

Assessment

Quick checklist: Name the letter in upper and lower case. Form the letter with guidance. Say the initial sound for six pictures. Write one word starting with J on the line.
