Step 1: Download & Organize Your Course Materials

  • Download: Access and download all course materials, including the Kindergarten Literacy Curriculum and the Parents’ Guidebook.
  • Print & Protect:
    • Print all worksheets. Consider printing in colour where visuals are important.
    • Tip: Laminate frequently used pages (like letter cards or activity mats) for durability and reusability with dry-erase markers!
  • Binder Setup: Create a dedicated “Literacy Adventure Binder.” Organize the curriculum weeks and the Parents’ Guidebook for easy access throughout the term.

Step 2: Gather Your Essential Learning Toolkit

  • Review Guidebook: Read the “Essential Materials (Gathering Your Toolkit)” section in your Parents’ Guidebook.
  • Collect Supplies: Gather common household items and craft supplies as suggested (e.g., flashcards, playdough, craft items, sensory bin materials like sand or rice).
  • Create a “Learning Station”: Designate a box or bin to keep all your literacy materials organized and ready for action!

Step 3: Familiarize Yourself with the Course

  • Read the Parents’ Guidebook FIRST: This guide is your roadmap! It explains the learning philosophy, benefits, and provides letter-by-letter activity ideas.
  • Review Weekly Plans: Glance through the weekly curriculum to understand the flow and anticipate upcoming letters and activities.

Step 4: Prepare Your Learning Environment

  • Set a Routine: Establish a consistent, short (5-15 minute) daily or multi-weekly “Literacy Time” with your child.
  • Positive Space: Create a fun, clutter-free area conducive to focused play and learning.
